Old Montreal is a beautiful neighbourhood where you can find hidden gems around every corner. There are numerous noteworthy restaurants and speciality boutiques here in the Old-Port. I decided to share with you a few of my favorite spots where I like to eat, shop and get pampered in Old Montreal.

1- Lunch Pick For A Homemade Healthy Meal:

Bello

“Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Every day I try to make it a point to prepare myself a healthy meal to enjoy at lunchtime. This, as we all know, is not always possible and for me, eating out was often synonym with having to compromise my healthy lifestyle. Until I discovered this gem. Not only is the food delicious but the service is impeccable and I am always greeted with a smile. There is a warm, familiar ambience that fills the place. This restaurant has become my go to place for those days when I run out of time to prepare a proper lunch without having to sacrifice my healthy eating habits. As a vegetarian, I am always pleased with the variety that Bello offers.

My lunch menu: The veggie platter

I like my plate to be as colorful as possible to make sure I get maximum nutritional benefits. My favorite thing on the menu is the lentil salad with cranberries and figs. I always have mine warmed up, which always seems to surprise them, but I’m Colombian and grew up having lentils as a hot meal so eating them cold now would just seem weird. The salad also contains roasted beets, green beans and sweet potatoes accompanied by some rice. Healthy AND delicious!!

2-Shopping Pick For Home Décor:

Lotus Boutique

A compliment I hear very often from our beloved clients is how much they enjoy the beautiful décor at the center; many actually admit to feeling relaxed by simply being here. Though my sister and I decorated the place ourselves, we credit much of the serene atmosphere to some of the beautiful pieces we carefully selected at one of our favorite local shops: Lotus on rue St-Sulpice. The owner is always helpful and patient as we tend to be somewhat slow shoppers. In our defense, there are so many treasures to be discovered inside the shop that you’ll want to take your time and take it all in before making your final pick.

Béco

When it comes to living mindfully, I recognize that this does not only apply to our well-being but that of others and the planet we inhabit as well . Boutique Béco provides a great variety of products which are manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner; from home décor to clothing and jewelry to baby essentials. One thing I often emphasize with clients is the importance of having your home and workspace reflect who you are. That being said, if you love living mindfully, not only for your own well-being but for that of others, as well as the planet we inhabit, choosing products that are natural, produced responsibly and non-toxic is a no brainer.

Here are some of my favorite products from Boutique Beco, all of which we use right here at the center much to our customers’ delight:

I often sing the praises of aromatherapy. If any of you has ever wondered what that subtle and soothing scent floating around your treatment room is, it’s the lavender spray from seafoam lavender farm.

We often like to greet our clients with a warm cup of tea on cold winter days, but if your session is after lunchtime, chances are you’ll be offered a delightful lavender Plaisir digestif.

Finally, one of my favorites is our inspirational stones which are strategically scattered around the center to give you a little boost of inspiration when you need it the most.

One of my favorite gifts to give and receive is books. A while ago I orchestrated a trade with a friend. I gave her a Thai yoga massage and she promised to give me something of equal value in exchange. We didn’t agree on what exactly so I told her to surprise me. A few days later, I received a package at work… with no note, nothing. I opened it to discover a box full of books on all my favorite subjects! It was such a wonderful and thoughtful gift! Sure I love reading online as much as the next gal but nothing compares to curling up with a good book. So, if you are a book lover like me or have someone in your life who is a bit of a book worm, head on over to Librairie Bertrand, an independent bookstore that recently opened its doors on rue St-Pierre, and treat yourself or a loved one with a good book.

5- Salon Picks For Beauty:

White Smiles

As a holistic health practitioner, I spend my days incorporating the concept of holism and the importance of the interconnectedness of the mind, body and soul in achieving optimal wellness. Indeed, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Therefore, one aspect that must not be neglected is physical appearance, as this tends to reflect very accurately what is going on inside. One of my monthly beauty rituals is to walk over to Spa Mcgill after a long (but always rewarding) work day and let myself be pampered by the lovely Tatiana Nikoronova, my eyelash extension technician. She always does an amazing job at getting the look I like just right. Tatiana is so kind and attentive in the process that the experience is always a pleasure ( this seems to be a common occurrence with people named Tatiana 😉 ). She somehow always knows what I am in the mood for, whether it’s a more chatty session, where we update each other on our latest news or whether I just want to take a quick relaxing snooze while she works her magic.

6- Salon Le Tube for Hairstyling

Although I’m aware that many of you already know of this place, I cannot forget to mention my fabulous neighbor Pal, from salon Le Tube. He radiates such joy that my days are always made a little brighter when they start with a smile and a wave from him as I pass his window on my walk to the center. Now when it comes to the hair department, whatever look you are going for, you can rest assured that your locks are in great hands. It’s just that much more enjoyable to know that you will not only leave his salon looking beautiful but he will, without a doubt, put a smile on your face.
