Roses have been used for centuries for the array of health-promoting benefits they deliver, their enchanting scent and of course, their entrancing beauty. Growing up, my mom used to make rose water regularly and she would give my sister and I our own bottle to bathe ourselves with. She believed it was, not only soothing, but that it would also bring good fortune.
Rose water is a wonderful way to welcome spring into our homes. There are different ways to get rose water. One of the options is to buy rose essential oils but, what can I say, I’m feeling a bit old fashioned today. So you guessed it! Today I will be showing you an easy DIY rosewater recipe. I started by going to my local market and purchasing a beautiful bouquet of organic flowers. There’s something so romantic about buying your own bouquet of roses. After all, there’s no rule against doing something nice for yourself! I really enjoy having a bit of the outdoors in my home. I love the fresh aroma of flowers as they fill a room, not to mention the mood-enhancing benefits they procure. The process itself is quite simple.
So here’s what you will need to make your own rose water
First, make sure that the flowers you purchase are fresh. The fresher the flowers, the better the results. If you don’t think you will be able to tackle this DIY the same day you purchase the flowers, store them in you fridge overnight. Then, when you’re ready, you can simply pluck the petals off the roses. If you buy them from a store, I would recommend rinsing them off to make sure you get all the chemicals out. Once that’s done, place the petals in a large pot filled with just enough distilled water to barely cover them. Put the pot on the stove and cover it with a lid. Let it simmer until the petals lose most of the color. Now strain the petals and drain the liquid into a bowl, a jar or a spray bottle.
