What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion and manipulation of fine needles in certain parts of the body assisting in restoring health and well-being. It is recognized as an effective treatment for many chronic and acute diseases. The perspective of the acupuncturist is based on the taoist concept of yin and yang energy. The acupuncturist evaluates the energy flow and distribution of the vital force through its meridians and canals. Through stimulation of certain areas along the meridians, the acupuncturist is able to influence health and diseased states. The objective always being to adjust the vital energy to facilitate a harmonious flow through the body.

Frequently Asked Questions

The technique behind acupuncture involves redirecting the body’s vital energy by inserting very fine needles at precise points of the body that are located along the body’s energy channels (meridians). These needles are inserted at the surface of the body and are not placed skin deep. The needle insertion process feels like a mosquito bite. The selection of areas along these energy channels, that the acupuncturist chooses to insert the needles along, will dictate its effects on specific bodily organs, acting on the symptoms the client has specified during their initial consultation with a Toro Holistic Health Center acupuncturist.

Acupuncture needles are indeed safe and there are absolutely no risks of disease spreading through the needles used during a treatment. The needles utilized during an acupuncture session are disposable and, therefore, discarded after being used once.  Moreover, The Ordre des Acupuncteurs du Québec dictates that all acupuncturists practicing in the province of Québec must use only sterile, single-use needles.
